OXSHOTT ROYALS 1 - 4 ROUNDSHAW COLTS
Sunday
23 September
An early
start for everyone this morning with a 10am kick off out at
Cobham, leaving Amy Johnson around 8.45 with no sign of
Lesli, a quick call informs me he is still in bed unwell (ahh
poor lad) .For those of us who were their we saw an
excellent first half performance which saw us go in at half
time 3-1 up. A hat-trick from Russell with a solid display
from the back line & keeper set us up for 2 wins out of 2,
.I won't mention the dodgy penalty the ref gave against us.
.A tactical change for the second half saw Brandon come on
with Garrett moving to left back, oh sorry i forgot to
mention the 2 goals he said he set up for Russell to just
tap home. With James & Henry in centre mid working hard &
the 2 wide men pushing forward the team had a good shape to
it & we were creating lots of chances. The 4th goal was not
far away and Russell obliged. Matt had a good solid game &
came off for Martin who got straight into the action. The
back line seemed to deal with everything Oxshott threw at
them & when called upon Josh made a couple of important
saves. The only down side to a good performance was the 2
yellow cards both for dissent, seemed a bit harsh to me.
Still lets hope we learn from this as cautions can prove
costly in fines as well as bans later in the season.

comments: An excellent performance and great start it's good
to see you all enjoying your football. With just the 3 subs
allowed this year & no rolling on & off it makes taking
players off the pitch harder, especially when you are all
playing well, it's good that you accept my decisions without
making a fuss so please keep it up.
A big
thank you to the parents who helped us get the lads to the
match with lifts, unfortunately this is going to be a big
problem this year, but hopefully between us we can manage
to get them their. |

WARREN MEAD
A 1 - 2 ROUNDSHAW
Sunday 16
September
The
first match of the season away at Nork Park, on a very warm
day saw the U17's off to a very good start with a 2 - 1
victory over Warren Mead A. After some early pressure from
Roundshaw, Warren Mead took the lead on 10 minutes catching
the back line with a quick break and a very good finish from
their striker. Roundshaw kept the pressure on and after
hitting the crossbar Martin then levelled the score with a
good strike. After lots of possession Roundshaw had a free
kick ten yards out on the right hand side of the box and the
free kick settled in the back of the net with a great strike
from Brandon, but the quality of the celebration did not
quite live up to the goal, but had everyone in hysterics.
Good chances from Matthew, James and Garrett go close, but
the half-time whistle blows and we go in 2 -1 up, which does
not reflect our possession and chances. Second half
kicks-off and starts where it left off. Martin has a shot
saved by the keeper, then Warren Mead have a rare attack
which is saved by Josh and cleared by Jack. Brandon and
Henry continue to cause problems but the cushion of a third
goal has still not come. We make our first change Matt
comes on to replace Matthew who had a fine game. More
chances and this time it's Leslie to put wide, Josh although
not very busy in goall, when called upon makes a fine save,
and this time it's Daniel who gets back to help out. Henry
gets an elbow and nothning is given and then James gets
punched in the face ending up in a chipped tooth and nothing
is given. The lads discipline was excellent as they did not
retaliate and left the referree to deal with the situation,
unfortunately he took no action and gave a free kick to
Warren Mead. After a solid game from Stuart, Joe comes on
for the rest of the game. With ten minutes to go things
were very tight and a great defensive header from Matt kept
us in the lead. Leslie went through the pain barrier in the
last ten minutes after taking a blow to the ribs, but
soldiered on still smiling as always.
Managers comments: A good
first match and the score line does not quite reflect our
domination. We created lots of good chances but need to put
more of them away. A great attitude from all the players
was shown at the end of the game with smiles all round. A
good defensive display, we've got to concentrate for the
whole 90 minutes and cut out the slow start.
Something to work on in
future matches.
