Hurricanes weathers storm

epsom & ewell colts 3  roundshaw colts b (hurricanes) 4  div 3 cup semi-final

like most semi finals this one got off to a tentative start with both teams evenly matched , roundshaw took the upper hand after 7mins with a goal by oliver king direct from a corner. the hurricanes gained momentum from this and started to pass the ball more fluently , a great pass from jd put the ever consistent scott(to hot)tumbridge through on goal to take his 26th of the season .epsom&ewell nearly get one back straight from the re-take forcing the roundshaw keeper to make a great save , then a great passing move between callum , louis & jd got the gaol it deserved 3-0 roundshaw a mistake by epsom &ewell let jd in for his second & the hurricanes 4th , then the whistle sounds for half time.the second half gets under way & epsom & ewell hit back straight away with a well deserved gaol , with new found confidence epsom & ewell start to mount wave after wave of attack and gain a second making the score 2-4 with only 8mins of the half gone they were back in the game . epsom kept the pressure on and with a great move got a 3rd making it 3 gaols in 12mins. the hurricaines then rallied coming close to a 5th if not for a save from epsoms gaollie . epsom &ewell kept coming forward but some great defencive work from alex & man of the match callum ganlley to help the hurricaines weather the storm & find there way into the finals . well done to both teams , truly a game of two half's !

Saturday 19th January 2008

Roundshaw Colt’s (B team) v South Park Juniors - U9’s

It was the long awaited return match and the Hurricanes were ready to play top of the league South Park Juniors.

The pressure was on, and the Hurricanes defence was busy from the start, both teams had near misses, then with a great pass from JD, Scott’s header just went over the post, this was just the type of pressure the Hurricanes wanted to put on South Park Juniors and work their defence.

Both team were playing well, and the No9 from SPJ was putting on the pressure along with their No2 who had a great try at goal but RS’s goalie Nicky made sure they did not go 1 – 0 down.

Injury stopped play, but only for a few minutes, gave everyone the chance to catch their breath, both teams were soon playing again and then with a great pass from Alex to Louis and Louis passing on to front man Scott there was no stopping the Hurricanes as they went 1-0 up. Could have even been 2-0 up within minutes but Scott just missed goal.

SPJ put the pressure back on, but great team work in defence saved RSC going 1-1. With Half time approaching both teams were playing tight, but the Hurricanes made it 2-0 before both teams got a breather at half time.

Second half saw SPJ really putting the pressure on RSC and goalie Nicky was soon busy saving the first try at goal. SPJ were pulling out all the stops but RSC were not going to lose their lead on the match, even a challenge on Scott and a change of player for SPJ did not deter Scott from claiming his 3rd goal from JD’s great free kick.

The pressure was really on now, and SPJ led the attack and were piling the pressure on the Hurricanes defence, a missed kick then led the ball to deflect off a RSC player which gave SPJ’s their first goal. SPJ’s did not let up and were keeping the defence busy, even with 2 corners, SPJ could not break the Hurricanes defence down, and then with a great pass from Alex at the back, down to Scott, he just made easy work of goal number 4.

Confidence grew for the Hurricanes and all players were keen to show their football skills on the pitch, this made for a great game, all the crowd, home and away were willing their teams on.

A corner taken by …..led to Scott scoring his 5th goal, what an exciting match, the hurricanes then had two change of players, with Scott and Oliver off, SPJ would be forgiven, to think they might get back into the game, but Josh & Zac kept up the good team work, and at the final whistle by that gorgeous ref RSC could not have been happier with their 5 - 1 win.

U9 Hurricanes3 v Horsley FC

Referee I Galloway.

As is becoming clear game after game, Hurricanes are a greatly improved team this season. Undefeated at home, showing great promise. Scott scored a great first goal with Horsley equalising just before half time. Alex scored a fantastic second half penalty and Scott came up trumps again. It would be unfair not to mention Nicky (Captain), Louis, Joshua,Callum Tariq, Oliver, Zac and of course JD who seems to improve with every game as do the whole team.

Alex got a well desrved Man of the Match. WELL DONE!

 Roundshaw Colts B U9 3 Old Coulsdon Colts B 0

In their fourth match of the season the Hurricanes got off to a flyer. Having kicked off, the ball was sent straight to the right wing by JD to Ollie who beat one defender and sent the ball into the box. This resulted in a corner. The resultant corner was taken by JD and this eluded all straight onto the foot of Louis who slotted the ball into the goal; 1 -0. This was after just 2mins. This early goal unsettled Old Coulsdon who made a string of mistakes as the Hurricanes continue to pile on the pressure. However they did not take advantage of this even though they had a number of chances to go ahead further. Good combinations between Scott, JD, Ollie and Louis consistently caused problems for the opposition team. As Hurricanes moved forward, the opponents quickly broke and some brilliant backtracking by Alex and cover play by Josh stopped Old Coulsdon from getting an equalizer. The tide turned and Old Coulsdon had their moments. The ball seemed to be forever in Hurricane’s half but never once did they trouble the keeper and captain Nicky.
Hurricanes quickly took charge again. A throw in by Alex got to JD who beat 3 defenders and passed to Louis whose shot was saved by the goalie. Shots by Scott and JD narrowly went wide as Hurricanes continued to put some pressure on the opponents. Scott was substituted and Zak came on into attack. As the half drew to an end Hurricanes had their ninth corner as against Old Coulsdon’s nil. This was wasted. Half Time - Hurricanes 1 Old Coulsdon 0

Second half – Tariq, Scott and Callum come on for Louis, Zak and Josh.
The second half started as the first finished, with the Hurricanes quickly gaining possession. Some beautiful play and combination between JD, Scott and Callum resulted in the goalie saving a shot from Callum. Minutes later Callum received the ball on the left and squared the ball to JD who shot with the side of his foot into the corner – goal; 2 – 0. The goal seemed to have taken the wind out of the opponents. A cross from Ollie created confusion in the box and Hurricanes should have made it 3. A string of corners resulted from the pressure with the opponents clearing each time. A beautiful long ball from Ollie found Scott one on one with the goalie. His shot was saved. Hurricanes did not take their foot off the pedal and the defenders also got in the act. Tariq took the ball from his half ran pass 3 players onto the edge of the 12 yard box on the right flank, crossed to Scott who narrowly missed. Old Coulsdon managed to get their first corner of the games half way through the second half. This caused a few anxious moments but was dealt with by Nicky and his defenders. Hurricanes took charge again and a cross from Ollie was stopped by the goalie. Seconds later another cross from Ollie found JD whose shot was defected just wide. The resultant corner was cleared by the defenders of Old Coulsdon. Hurricanes finally made it 3 - 0 when some good play by Callum found JD whose shot went passed all into the net. Hurricanes controlled the game till the final whistle.

Team: Nicky (Goalkeeper + Captain), Alex, Josh, Ollie, Louis, JD, Scott
Subs: Zak, Tariq, Callum

Man of the Match: JD
