Reserves
back on form !!!!
Reserves 2
- 1 Parkhead
This
week saw Parkhead FC try their luck at the theatre of
Roundshaw park in the first round of the Tom Lawson
League intermediate Cup. Injuries to the team
meant that Jon Walker was still out, Richard Walker was
still on the injury list along with E-man . Even
with these players out we still had a good strong starting
11. Roundshaw started slowly but had two good opportunities
to go ahead with Big Paul going close twice in the first 15
minutes. Sadly Parkhead went ahead when some great skill
from their front man twisted our defence and gave are
keeper Drucey
no opportunity to save 0-1.
Roundshaw came back strongly after being the
weaker team for the first 25 minutes. Al struck a fierce shot heading
towards the goal that cracked Femi right in the meat and two veg,
Femi never managed to recover from this fully and on came
the inspirational sub of Juan who played a part
in a great move which saw Jamie get to the ball from a
defence splitting pass before the Parkhead keeper and
bundled it nicely into the net. Shortly after the goal the
half time whistle went.
Roundshaw had a deep discussion with the
manger at
half time who to sum everything up told the lads that it was
there game to be won. Roundshaw came out all guns blazing
in the second half with Scott , Adam, Simon, Alan, Josh and
Jamie winning all the balls in the air they were supported
on both wings with good play from Big Paul and Juan. A chance came early on when
Macca made a great pass to Big Paul whose shot
narrowly went over the bar. Then the turning point in the
game came when some outstanding battling for the ball in the
corner of the pitch meant Josh could put a fine cross right
on the head of the oncoming goal machine Macca.
After the goal, Parkhead managed to gain some
momentum where they had a couple of chances, but keeper Drucy
made a superb double save and Scott made two great goal
saving blocks. Roundshaw had a chance to seal the win with a
great long range effort from Al that narrowly went
wide finally after what seemed like an eon the ref blew for full-time shortly after another
great save from Wayne and an important of the goal line block by Scott .
Mention should be made that Skipper Simon Randal had a great
return to form after his absolute howler last week!
W**ker of the week: This has to go to
one man, no criticisms of anybody on the pitch, so I have to
give the Nobel prize to E-man for managing to injure his ankle carrying
crate of cider down the stairs at work and then trying to convince
people that he wasn’t trying to steal the booze. Also for
countless attempts to get lairy to David the manager.
Man
of the match went to Al for an all round hard working and
team lifting performance.
