Match Report 18
October 2009 Roundshaw Colts vs. New Malden Town The reserves started with a point to prove especially after the comments in ironsides match report see here regarding Parkhead FC giving us a gift in our League cup run maybe they should ask Parkhead rather than drawing their own conclusions from a result. I look forward to our 2 meetings with them to show them what we are all about The Manager. After a 1 – 1 draw away, Roundshaw Colts started with a point to prove. A few early chances passed but the deadlock was broken after Paul tapped into an open net at the back post. A great run down the line from Mike, left him one-on-one with the New Malden keeper. The Keeper made a fantastic diving save at Mike’s feet but the ball fell kindly at the feet of the in form Macca and his right shot was finished off by Paul. With Roundshaw now settled in and passing well, a second goal wasn’t going to be long in coming. This came with two great goals form Jamie, which virtually sealed all the points. With the keeper standing off his line, Jamie spotted this and took full advantage to hit a shot from 40 yards that flew up and over the keeper and into the back of the net. Jamie’s second was even better than his first, with a fast, counter attacking football from a New Malden corner. The ball broke to Mike inside the Roundshaw half; he feed the ball up the line to the on rushing Jamie who again saw the keeper racing to meet him. After one glance, Jamie nicely chipped the ball over the keepers head into an empty net. With Roundshaw cruising and having opportunities to extend the lead on many occasions but made it four nil with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. An out swinging corner from the left hand side was hammered goal wards from a powerful header from Josh only to be stopped on the line by defender. Unfortunately for New Malden luck wasn’t on their side and the ball dropped to Mike, who hit home first goal for the team from 5 yards (it was harder to miss). With half-time around the corner and the score four nil, New Malden started to play with nothing to lose and managed to pull a goal back. After beating the off-side trap, the New Malden striker passed a low shot to the left of Wayne in the Roundshaw goal. No clean sheet for Wayne this game as his hard work to prevent them didn’t last. Straight from the re-start Roundshaw attacked to keep the momentum going after conceding a sloppy goal. Current leading goal scorer, Macca got a piece of the action. With very smooth foot work, Macca worked his way passed the keeper and hit a right foot shot pass the defender that was on the line. Half Time; Roundshaw Colts 5 – 1 New Malden Town The second half started with a bang. Making his debut trial, Mark chased down a long pass from Bizzy and managed to get tangled up with the New Malden right back. Going head-to-head, handbags where rattled of which the ref didn’t like. The ref pulled both players a side and after a brief word, he showed a yellow then swiftly followed by a RED CARD for his comments. After the brief stoppage, the game re-started with the momentum now in the hands of 11 men New Malden town players and with a stunned Roundshaw not quiet believing what we had just witnessed football rage at its worst. They only took 5 minutes to make the advantage count, with the New Malden striker hitting a well worked goal into the bottom corner. Drucey this time couldn’t reach the shot and was picking the ball out of the net for a second time which Roundshaw didn’t deserve. Could all of the first half hard work be undone in the second? With New Malden growing in confidence, Roundshaw needed a great half from the defensive four who settled and controlled everything that came close to the Roundshaw area after conceding a second goal. Scott With help from his partners Adam Si and Bizzy, who cleared the danger with a calm and cool heads. With the game becoming balanced and time now running out for New Malden, Roundshaw again looked settled and rounded off a great victory with two more goals. After scoring Roundshaw’s fifth goal, Macca got the sixth and his second of the game by diverting a shot from Josh after being set up by Juan very Thierry Henry. The shot cannoned off Macca back heel and into the corner with the keeper stranded in no mans land. With the midfield diamond creating chances to add more goals, Juan had a chance but couldn’t dig the ball from under his feet, Macca couldn’t convert a hat-trick chance but the scoring was finished by a contender for Man of the Match. With a free kick just inside the New Malden half, Roundshaw crowded the penalty area with bodies. Bizzy hit a cross field ball which just invaded the first defender but a superb touch and shot from Josh made it Seven goals to Two, Final Score. With many great individual performances and a fantastic team effort to win all three points the Man of the Match was a difficult decision. From a choice of four players, the subs and Dave decided that Macca's all round performance, sole efforts up front in the second half and scoring two goals that he was a well worthy winner. Goals Scorer; Paul, Jamie (2), Mike, Dan (2), Josh.
