Match Report 1 November 2009
Reserves' dreams dashed of the treble in their first season

on a truly foul day the reserves turned up for the second round of the Tom Lawson league cup. Drawn against Cheam nomads second top of the 4th division at home. By the time the nets where up and the team ready to play we where all soaked to the skin but up for this one off cup game. After team selection from our injury depleted squad of players with players filling in holes in various spots in the starting 11. We started the game with a team début for Tommy in the holding midfielder role and Juan at right back.

Game on nomads went straight on the attack with 3 full on chances going begging for them. We looked nervous and couldn't seem to get to the ball before it was played, then it came another attack down our right wing superbly crossed by the nomads player to our far post struck by one of the two onrushing  free players into Wayne's body the ball then deflected across goal passed Wayne who was racing on the spot in the mud when another on rushing nomads player hit it into Juan who stopped the ball going across the line with his body only for the ball to stop dead under his down coming leg where his heel clipped it and sent it across the line and into the back of the net you had to see it to believe it, f**king wind and rain was becoming the nomads 12th man this further unsettled us with us only 10 minutes into the game. With some stern words from the defence and myself we settled with Jon moving to right back Juan right of centre and Jamie dropping off to help the middle more.

Five minute to half time nomads scored their second this time no excuses poor defending the culprit the same move this time the onrushing player finished first shot. A firing squad will be convened when I have calmed down but this will still take a day or two. this was not the time for ripping new arseholes into the individuals. The team need calm assertive and constructive information from my self at half time and I knew their was still lots of fight in us. we started the second half a different team ( or I should say the team that we are not the pale shadow that played in the first half)
With attacking moves from the right centre and from the back we where back in the game closing their players down quicker by being tighter to them (thanks Jon) Then would you believe it the 12th man ( wind & rain ) decides to calm and eventually stop when its us playing with it. Twice the ball was on the line with the goal keeper nowhere in sight needing only a touch to send it over, but no whereas normally both times the ball would have rolled over and gone in normal weather conditions the ball for us stuck in the mud on the line, that 12 nomad player again.

The football Gods obviously where determined to **** us over. We dug deep and endeavoured and a goal finally came from a corner. Adam whipped in a great header ( should have had a Hatrick with his head this day but you already know I hadn't been doing my Hail Marys so he was paying me back) only to come of their defending goal line player falling nicely to Tommy who half volleyed into the back of the net!!!!! for his debut goal GAME ON 12th man or not. Chance after chance came to no avail with Cheam looking beaten even through they where 2-1 up.
full time score 2-1 to Cheam

DEFINITELY FELT WE DESERVED THE SECOND GOAL WHICH WOULD HAVE LED TO EXTRA TIME AND I FULLY BELIEVE A VICTORY BY US.

Man of the match - Adam (8), a all round great game, and living proof that his new exercise regime is starting to pay off keep it up.

 Match Reporter the Manager

W**ker of the week  Paul first for not having his kit secondly for the tantrum when he didn't start when I had no extra kit for him .

 Player scores Wayne 8 Adam 8 Scott 8 Bizzy 6  Juan 6 Josh 8 Jamie 8 paul 6 Jon 7 Carl 6 mike 7
Macca 7 Tommy 8

Managers Comment: We must use this as a tool kit for lessons we can all learn about our selves and the team and move forward now onto next weeks county cup game vs. crab & dragon down in Camberley yep I did say Camberley early start it is a mention in despatches regarding Scott who came back on when he could have easily come off with the state his hand was in hero of the week I think one for the team. Also for Simon and Riche who are both recovering and could quite easily have stayed in bed on such a foul morning but came to support and watch the team and their mates this really does stand you both in good stead and is a show of good character in my book well done.
